Robert Parker - Wine Advocate The 1996 Special Reserve proprietary red (87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc) is an outstanding offering. Only 252 cases of this beauty were produced. Bottled unfiltered, this is a Bordeaux-styled wine with a Medoc-like, mineral, lead pencil, and black currant fruitiness intertwined with weedy tobacco and spice box scents. Dense, with high tannin as well as beautiful rich, ripe fruit, this stylish, graceful, potentially complex wine would be difficult to pick out as a California Cabernet in a blind tasting. Anticipated Maturity: '02 - '20. |
