Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate
The estate’s 2003
Barolo Castiglione possesses superb balance in its expression of
sweet red cherries, spices and flowers. It is one of the more accessible
Barolos of the vintage and should drink well over the next decade
or so. In 2003, the Castiglione benefits from the addition of the
fruit from the Villero vineyard as Vietti decided not to bottle
its Riserva. The Castiglione remains one of the best relative values
in Piedmont. It is a multi-commune blend made from an assortment
of plots which are considered too small and therefore impractical
to vinify separately. In most years the core of the wine is composed
of Bric del Fiasc, Fossati/Case Nere, Bussia, Ravera and Villero
(when there is no Riserva). Anticipated maturity: '07 - '17. |
